It was a very busy time for me as I had just moved to Duke as Chief of Cardiology. I had entrusted my team to do the work responsibly and ethically, and I take full responsibility for my mistake and for what has happened. Unfortunately, due to the 15 years gap between the performance of the work, and the discovery of fabrication, I could not review the original data and identify, beyond the shadow of a doubt, who was responsible for the fabrication (although I do have strong suspicion).
